Lactose intolerance, or better known as lactose intolerance, is the inability to digest and absorb lactose (milk sugar), which causes gastrointestinal symptoms when milk or products containing milk are consumed.
Cause Allergies Lactose
Lactose intolerance is caused by a decrease or absence of activity of lactase that prevents the splitting of lactose (lactase deficiency). Lactase deficiency can occur because of three things:
1. Congenital Since Birth
Lactose intolerance is due to inborn. It's very rare. If this happens to the baby, then the baby should really be given a lactose free meal replacement.
2. Securities Other Diseases
Another cause of lactase deficiency is secondary lactase deficiency. Type of deficiency is due to a disease that damages the inner lining of the small intestine along with the lactase. Examples are celiac sprue disease.
3. Age factor
The most common cause of lactase deficiency is a decrease in the amount of lactase that occurs after childhood and continues into adulthood, referred to as a type of adult hypolactasia, and this happens genetically
Lactose Allergy Symptoms
Undigested lactose will accumulate and fermented in the large intestine, causing intestinal disorders such as abdominal pain, cramps, bloating and gaseous, as well as diarrhea, about half an hour to two hours after consuming lactose products. These symptoms are often mistaken for gastrointestinal disorders. The severity of symptoms depends on how much lactose that can be tolerated by each body. These symptoms are similar to milk allergy reactions, but in the case of allergies, these symptoms occur more quickly, sometimes in just minutes.
If someone is suffering from a deficiency of lactase and avoid products that contain lactose, over time people can lose weight and suffer from malnutrition. For that, immediately consult a doctor to determine if you actually have lactose intolerance or not.
